What is Hama ZOO?
Hama ZOO is the nickname of Hamamatsu City Zoo in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. At Hama ZOO, you can meet more than 120 kinds of animals. Located north of Hamamatsu City Flower Park, they combine to form Kanzanji General Park, and you can freely visit both gardens by purchasing a “common ticket”. The primate exhibit is one of the largest zoos in Japan, and Japan zoos are home to western lowland gorillas and golden lion tamarins (playbox ♡ favorites)that are only bred here. I often go there when I personally want to meet the Golden Lion Tamarin. Otters and American beavers are also bred, and you can spend a very satisfying time. However, unfortunately, you can’t meet the American beavers at Hamazoo very often, so if you do, please be very lucky! It is a zoo loved not only by locals but also by many people.

There are many slopes in the park, and I don’t have enough exercise, so I kill two birds with one stone, but I think it is difficult for those who have weak legs. If you look at the map distributed at the entrance of the park and move efficiently, you can easily go around the park. If you keep going back and forth with momentum, you’ll be sluggish on the way home! Also, please note that outdoor wagons are prohibited in the park and strollers are not rented. 
Origin of Hama ZOO “When did the Golden Lion Tamarin come?”
November 1, 1950 (Showa 25) “Hamamatsu Children’s Exposition” was held in the current Hamamatsu Castle Park, and the Hamamatsu City Zoo was opened on the site after the closure. From December 1994 (Heisei 6), two male and female were borrowed from the Brazilian government and the breeding of golden lion tamarins began. Named Rio and Rika, these two golden lion tamarins were blessed with 38 cubs in 20 births. As of now (2022), only two brothers, Willy and Elio, are alive. Of course, the population is aging year by year. 
What kind of curious is the Golden Lion Tamarin?
Also known as the golden marmoset, it is a small curious lady with a body length of about 30 cm called the golden lion tamarin because of its golden fur and lion-like mane. In Japan, there are only two animals bred at the Hama ZOO. He is a very valuable Curious Lady. It is a diurnal primate that cherishes its family, and it is said that there are about 1000 of them living mainly in the rainforest called Mata Atlantica on the Atlantic coast of Brazil. It is designated as an endangered species on the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Because of its cuteness, pets and edibles (really!?)or habitat has been lost due to deforestation due to population growth and industrial development. By the 1970s, the number had dropped to only about 200. Through artificial breeding, habitat migration and conservation activities, the number increased to about 3,700 in 2014, but as a result of the yellow fever epidemic in 2017, the number decreased by about 30 percent. In addition, in recent years (as of 2022), due to the spread of new corona infections, protection activities have not been sufficiently carried out.

The Day of the Earth Ox is said to be a “catchphrase“ given to an eel acquaintance. In other words, there is no basis for “Earth Ox Day = eel“, and it is a phrase that attracts customers simply because the pun is good or because it is impressive (memorable). It is said that it was named as a song.
